She Kills Monsters

Director- Matthew R. Wilson / Michael Hood

Scenic Designer- Jared Spears | Lighting Designer- Jeffrey Hannah

On this production I was a co-designer with Donna Buckley. I was tasked with designing the fantasy world based off of Dungeons and Dragons. This heartwarming venture into the life of a young teacher and her relationship with her late sister explores loss through experiencing the classic tabletop RPG.

I took reference from the original concepts of characters and creatures from D&D, and translated them onto the stage. The directors and I decided to also embrace the comedic undertones and add a “campy” feeling to it, as well as imitating how “LARPers” (Live Action Role-Players, often associated with D&D) would bring their characters to life. My co-designer and I worked closely to problem-solve the tight quick changes from fantasy to 1990’s high schoolers.
